British actress to be Disney's Cinderella

British actress Lily James (represented by Tavistock Wood) has beaten off the competition to land the title role of Cinderella in Disney's upcoming live-action interpretation of the beloved classic tale.

The film is being directed by Kenneth Branagh and will star  Cate Blanchett as the iconic evil stepmother.

Guildhall drama school graduate Lily James (represented by Tavistock Wood) received rave reviews for her portrayal of Desdemona opposite Dominic West in The Sheffield Crucible's production of Othello. She went on to play Ethel Brown in CBBC drama Just William, and star in athletics-based feature film Fast Girls, and is now based known for her portrayal of Lady Rose in Downton Abbey.

Filming is scheduled to start in the autumn for a 2014 release.
