First look at Comedown

First look at Comedown, the new teen urban-horror feature from Kidulthood director Menhaj Huda.

The young cast includes Jessica Barden, Jacob Anderson, Sophie Stuckey, Duane Henry, Calum MacNab and Adam Deacon  as six tearaway teenagers who break into an abandoned, condemned tower block to make mischief and party.

Mercy Point, a high-rise tower block conceived and built in the sixties, condemned in the nineties. Abandoned by all, it is now home to a brooding malevolence, and what resides within its empty floors is truly terrifying.
LLOYD (Jacob Anderson) a young man in his early 20′s, is facing the reality of fatherhood, determined to rise above the pervading knife culture and bleak environment he calls home. He’s back after time away in jail, reunited with the crew he left behind: GARY (Calum MacNab) – pyromaniac joker of the pack, JASON (Adam Deacon) – Lloyd’s Alpha male rival, COL (Duane Henry)– Jason’s slow-witted lackey with a crush on; KELLY (Jessica Barden) – boisterous and text obsessed, joined at the hip to; JEMMA (Sophie Stuckey) – Lloyd’s pregnant girlfriend.

Events take a terrifying twist when Jemma is snatched from the roof. Realising their friend has disappeared, yet at odds with each other, the frightened youths search the dark, eerily hollow interior of the tower. Doors bolted, stairways obstructed, lift now inoperable, they find themselves trapped in a hazardous, concrete labyrinth and when the pills kick in – the real terror begins. As the crew begin tripping out in the darkness, someone is exacting their own psychotic revenge, intent on ensuring the kids never come down alive.

A deranged tenant (played by Geoff Bell) living a solitary existence, is on a mission to eradicate what he sees as vermin invading his home. And just like rats the kids can run, they can hide, but no one knows this tower like this tenant...

Comedown is due for release later this year.

Tom Payne to star in The Physician

29 year British actor Tom Payne (represented by The Rights House in the UK) will star alongside Ben Kingsley and Stellan Skarsgard in a medieval period drama The Physician, based on the best-selling novel by Noah Gordon about a healer traveling across Europe in the 11th century.

Tom, originally from Bath, is a graduate of CSSD and played Brett Aspinall in two of the early series of Waterloo Road, as well as starring as George Best in the ITV drama Best:His Mother's Son. He has recently been seen as a regular as in HBO's acclaimed series Luck, and will be seen later this year in Hiam Abbass's directorial debut, Inheritance.

In the new film, Tom will play the leading role of physician Rob Cole, who searches for the scientific truth of illness and healing in a medieval world dominated by religion and superstition.

Oscar-winner Kingsley will play Ibn Sina, the so-called “doctor of all doctors” while Skarsgard, seen most recently in Disney/Marvel blockbuster The Avengers, will play Barber, Rob Cole’s first mentor.

Shooting on The Physician is set to start in Morocco and Germany next month.

The Ladies' Paradise

Rising star Joanna Vanderham is to star as Denise Lovett, a young girl who works in a department store and gets caught up in the charms of the modern world, in a new period drama series Paradise, coming to BBC One, from Bill Gallagher, the writer of Lark Rise to Candleford.

Joanna (represented by Ken McReddie Associates) is originally from Dundee and landed the lead role of Cathy in Martina Cole's The Runaway for Sky1, alongside Jack O'Connell, whilst she was still at drama school in Cardiff. Her first feature film role is in What Maise Knew, alongside Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard and Steve Coogan, due out this year.

Based on the novel by Emile Zola, The Ladies' Paradise is a rags-to-riches story set in the 1890s when Denise arrives in the city and falls in love with the intoxicating and dangerous charms of the modern world. Made homeless by the death of her father, and with nothing to live on but her wits, Denise comes to work as a shop girl at the glittering store, just at the moment when society is waking up to the joys and temptations of shopping. But behind the dazzling facade of the store, she finds a world of intrigues, affairs and shopfloor power struggles.

The eight-part series will also star Emun Elliott as the owner of the store, and Matthew McNulty (Misfits, Spike Island) as Dudley his right-hand man. The cast also includes Sarah Lancashire, David Hayman, and Elaine Cassidy.

The series is set to start filming on location outside Durham in June.

Meet the new Misfits

With filming underway on Series 4 of E4's award-winning series Misfits, Screenterrier can exclusively reveal the two new young stars joining the series after the departures of Iwan Rheon and Antonia Thomas.

23 year old Karla Crome (represented by Troika) stars as Jess, described as a kind of female version of Larry David – smart and articulate, She’s the person who will say the un-sayable, the person who’ll question social norms and etiquette.

Karla is a graduate of Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and is also a talented writer, with her play If Chloe Can recently produced by the National Youth Theatre. She is about to be seen playing Riley in Sky1's new drama series Hit and Miss.

Nathan McMullen from Liverpool (represented by Shepherd Management) joins the cast as Finn, who has a childlike naively optimistic view of life, he's always eager to please and enthusiastic about life and is very funny.

Nathan graduated from the Manchester School of Theatre at the Manchester Metropolitan University in 2009, and has since appeared in Casualty and Shameless.

Both original cast member Nathan Stewart-Jarrett who plays Curtis and Series 3's Rudy played by Joe Gilgun are returning for Series 4.

No news as yet on the replacement for Lauren Socha, who has been written out in the wake of her conviction for racial-aggravated assault.

Series 4 of Misfits is being directed by Nirpal Bhogal (Sket) and will return to E4 in late 2012.

Meet the new faces of Waterloo Road

top row l-r, Lula, Imogen, Rhiannon, Connor. Bottom row l-r, Gus, Jade
Series 8 of Waterloo Road sees the Rochdale-based school move to Greenock in Scotland when a number of current teachers and pupils move to set up a new independent school.

And there are some new faces too joining the school for the new term:

20 year old Kirstie Steele from Glasgow plays Imogen, an intelligent, self-effacing wall-flowers, who's always felt out of step with her classmates, and finds their shallow teenage concerns anathema – a feeling which is mutual, as her goth-lite appearance and solitary habits will often generate bitchy comments from her peers. Kirstie, who had to dye her blonde hair black for the role, is a member of the Scottish Youth Theatre, and recently graduated from studying Musical Theatre at Bird College.

19 year old London rapper Paige Meade (represented by United Agents) stars as 16 year old Jade Fleming, who joins Waterloo Road in traumatic circumstances. She and her boyfriend have been on the run from London and hiding out in the woods after he absconded from his juvenile detention centre. Paige has previously appeared in feature films the award-winning Attack The Block and Noel Clarke's romantic feature The Knot which is due to be released next year.

17 year old Benjamin Gur from London plays the self-assured, self-confident, skirt-chasing Angus "Gus" Hancock who joins Waterloo Road from a neighbouring school. Benjamin (represented by Conway Van Gelder) has had previous roles in CBBC's Sadie J and European drama series Borgia, and is currently studying for his A levels.

20 year old Shane O'Meara from Livingston, plays Connor, the seriously emotionally screwed up
son of new English teacher Christine Mulgrew ( played by ex-Eastender Laurie Brett.). Shane, who originally auditioned for the part of Gus, has already shot some big scenes. He said, "Connor's pretty wild, he does some shocking things and we're only a month in."

20 year old newcomer Marlene Madenge, plays Lula Tsibi. Marlene came to Scotland from the war-torn Congo when she was 11 and her experiences mirrored Lula's as she struggled to fit in to school in a new country. Marlene performed with the National Theatre of Scotland when she was just 16.

20 year old Welsh actress Rebecca Craven, joins the cast as Rhiannon Salt, a former Rochdale pupil who is now the school's super-bitch. Rebecca appeared in feature film Hunky Dory alongside Hollywood actress Minnie Driver, as well as Ruth Jones' comedy series Stella.

Waterloo Road Series 8 is currently filming and is due to be broadcast on BBC1 from September 2012.

300:Battle of Artemisia casting update

Skins bad-boy Jack O'Connell has replaced Jamie Blackley in the role of the young hero Calisto in the 300 prequel, provisionally titled 300: Battle of Artemisia, which is set to start shooting in Bulgaria later this month.

300 was the hugely successful adaptation of the cult graphic novel series by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley set in ancient Greece, featuring an epic array of Persians, Spartans and Greeks.

300: Battle of Artemisia is a prequel centred around the Persian King, Xerxes.

Calisto,  a 16 year old whose desire to become the heroic man/soldier his father was, leads him to become the leader of a small band of soldiers. The film will also star Eva Green as Artemisia, and Australian actor Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles.

Jack himself recently had to drop out of a role in Beautiful Creatures filming in the US due to visa issues, which may well have made him once again available for 300.
Represented by Conway Van Gelder, he will next be seen this year in the Michael Morpugo adaptation Private Peaceful, and then in  The Liability.

Casting Opportunity for boy with Cerebral Palsy

Kahleen Crawford Casting, a Film and TV casting company based in Scotland, are working with a French production company who are making a film (fictional) about a family that has a son who lives with cerebral palsy.

JULIEN has quite a complex form of CP, and the film centres around his and his father's decision to compete in an Iron Man contest together. The director is a French documentary film maker who has worked a lot with families who care for a child with a disability, so the inspiration for the story came through that.

They are looking to cast a boy of around 18 years old who has cerebal palsy to play the part of JULIEN. The film is being shot this summer in France. There will be no need for the boy to be able to speak French as JULIEN will use a communication device. The director is incredibly keen to cast someone who genuinely lives with cerebral palsy, and not an actor 'acting' it, so they have expanded the search to the UK.

KCC would like to reach out to as many boys who live with cerebal palsy in the UK as possible.
Please note that they do not require the boys to have had any experience in acting or performance before.

Notes on the character JULIEN
Julien has quite a complex form of Cerebral Palsy, he uses an electric wheelchair and because he has limited speech, also uses a communication device. Julien is 18 years old, so we are looking for a boy who could pass for that age. Julien’s intelligence is unaffected by his cerebral palsy.

Please feel free to go to the Kahleen Crawford Casting web site  to see who they are.

If you are interested, please send a couple of photos (one full length, one close up) along with a little info i.e age, where you live, hobbies and interests etc to:

proofoflife@kahleencrawford.com

If they think you might be suitable for the part, they will get back in touch with you and take it to the next stage.
