Mr Stink casting news

12 year old Nell Tiger Free will star as Chloe, the lonely girl who befriends local tramp Mr Stink and invites him to hide out in her family’s garden shed, in the forthcoming BBC One adaptation of David Walliams’ popular children’s novel.

Award-winning actor Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Twenty Twelve) is to play the title role of Mr Stink, with David Walliams set to put in an appearance as the Prime Minister.

Nell (represented by Esta Charkham Associates), who played Anna in feature film Broken, will star alongside Sheridan Smith as her overbearing Mum, and comedian Johnny Vegas as her put-upon Dad who has a secret of his own.

Jason Donovan's elder daughter, 12 year old Jemma Donovan (also represented by Esta Charkham Associates) plays Pippa.

Isabella Blake-Thomas (represented by Sylvia Young Agency) plays Chloe's "perfect" younger sister Annabelle. Isabella played Violet-Elizabeth Bott in the recent BBC adaptation of Just William.

The 60-minute family comedy is being produced by BBC In-house Comedy Productions in association with David Walliams and his production company DEW Productions. It will be directed by Declan Lowney.

Mr Stink is David Walliams’ second children’s novel. It was first published in 2009 and has since sold 250,000 copies. David’s other children’s books include his debut, The Boy in the Dress, Billionaire Boy and Gangsta Granny. Mr Stink has been nominated for a Blue Peter Book Award 2012.

Shooting on Mr Stink begins later this month, in time for a Christmas broadcast on BBC One.
