An open casting call was held last month to search for the three stars of the new Glasgow-set musical film created by Belle and Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, God Help The Girl. The lead role of Eve has still to be cast, but Variety has reported that the other two characters have now been cast.
One of Screenterrier's favourite faces to watch, 22 year old Olly Alexander (represented in the UK by Curtis Brown) will play James, the bookish and slim guitarist who accompanies Eve and becomes a mentor to young Cassie. Olly hit our screens with a role in the BBC's delightful school drama Summerhill and went on to star in Gasper Noe's edgy Enter The Void.
13 year old American starlet Elle Fanning will play Cass, the young outsider befriended by Eve and James. Elle has just wrapped filming in London on the lead role of Ginger in Sally Potter's Bomb, which also held an online casting call, and she is also due to star as Aurora in Sleeping Beauty reboot Maleficent alongside Angelina Jolie this year.
Shooting is due to start at the end of June in Glasgow.
