As the last ever episodes of Tracy Beaker Returns play out on CBBC, and we bid a final farewell to Dani Harmer in her long-running reign over CBBC as Tracy Beaker, there is some good news for fans of the series.
CBBC has commissioned a brand new drama series set in Jacqueline Wilson’s fictional children’s home The Dumping Ground, familiar to millions of viewers from CBBC dramas The Story of Tracy Beaker and Tracy Beaker Returns.
The new series will continue to delve into the everyday lives and experiences of young people in care, with new dilemmas, dramas and friendships being explored across 13 half-hour episodes, and Nick Sharratt’s popular animated illustrations, which featured in the award-winning series The Story of Tracy Beaker and Tracy Beaker Returns, will continue to counterpoint the live action. Leading writers including Elly Brewer, who worked on three series of Tracy Beaker Returns, will also work on the drama.
The Dumping Ground will start filming in Newcastle in June.
Lively storytelling, thought-provoking drama and comic side-plots remain at the core of The Dumping Ground, while its characters will be faced with challenging issues and personal difficulties to overcome.
Damian Kavanagh, Controller, CBBC, says: "We're delighted to be able to continue to tell stories from this world, which means so much to our viewers. There’s a really talented team ready to create this brand new series, and I’m looking forward to seeing the results of all their hard work.”
You can say Goodbye to Tracy Beaker in the final episode of Tracy Beaker Returns on CBBC 23 March 2012 6:00pm - 6:30pm.
