The Host casting news

A British actor will star alongside 17 year old Saoirse Ronan in The Host, the new screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer.

26 year old Max Irons has landed the role of Jared, who Melanie (Ronan) is in love with. Max (represented in the UK by Tavistock Wood) was recently seen in Sky's The Runaway and starred as Henry in the fantasy film Red Riding Hood. He is the son of Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack, and trained at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Reports suggest he beat out Miley Cyrus' boyfriend Liam Hemsworth and Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones for the part.

Saoirse has been attached to the film for a while and will play Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls. These parasites invade human bodies, fuse to each person’s consciousness and systematically erase their personalities. Melanie is captured by the aliens and implanted by a Soul called Wanderer, something of a legend because of all of the “hosts” she has attached to on numerous planets. Wanderer’s goal is to get Melanie to give up the remaining pockets of humans, but instead the alien finds Melanie to be unique in her unwillingness to surrender her consciousness. Wanderer is so overwhelmed by Melanie’s memories and feelings, the alien is driven to reconnect with Melanie’s old life.

Jake Abel who featured alongside Ronan in The Lovely Bones will play Ian, a man who falls in love with Wanderer despite the fact that she is in the body of Melanie...

The film will begin shooting in February 2012 in Louisiana and then New Mexico.
