The Hunger Games, casting is underway for the role of her little sister Prim.
20-year-old Jennifer was Oscar nominated for her role in "Winter's Bone", where she played a hard-bitten 17 year old girl searching for her father and defending her family. She will next be seen in the X-Men: First Class playing Raven Darkholme/Mystique.
"Jennifer's just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave," Collins said of the casting in an official statement. "I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it."
"I’m so excited work with Jen and see her bring this character to life," added director Gary Ross. "Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness, and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades. She’s going to be an amazing Katniss."
The directors are now on the look-out for Prim with the following brief :
Young Girl, 10 years old (or 12 to play 10 NOT YOUNGER), Caucasian, a very brave, tough and athletic little girl. She's strong - we are looking for a girl who actually IS athletic - gymnast preferred. Must be willing to cut her hair short. Blue eyes ESSENTIAL. American accent required.
And the film's synopsis:
In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16 years old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.
The Hunger Games will be directed by Gary Ross and is scheduled to start shooting at the end of May in Georgia and Wilmington, North Carolina.
