Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close casting news

12 year old Thomas Horn from California has been cast in the lead role of Oskar Schell in Stephen Daldry's new feature Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Thomas will star alongside Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock in the Eric Roth-scripted adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s acclaimed novel for Warner Bros.

Daldry needed an exceptionally intelligent kid to play Oskar Schell, the bright and precocious 9-year old whose father is killed in the World Trade Centre collapse. The youth finds a key left behind in his father’s belongings, and sets out on a cathartic journey to uncover the lock. Horn made the national headlines in the US in October when he won first place on the Jeopardy! gameshow winning $31,800 in prize money.

Horn has already signed with ICM, the agency that also reps Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Abigail Breslin and Kodi Smit-McPhee from Let Me In.

The film is due to begin shooting in January 2011 in New York.
