The eight part series Fresh Meat will follow six student roommates as they embark on their university education in Manchester.
According to C4’s head of drama Camilla Campbell the post-watershed series will take an uncompromising look at the students’ new-found independence as they are faced with dealing with life and relationships as young adults for the first time.
Bain and Armstrong will lead a team of writers for the eight 45-minute episodes.
The production will also take some cues from American sitcoms, with more than one read-through for each script and the writers workshopping ideas with actors.
Fresh Meat will go into production next year with Campbell hoping Fresh Meat will become a long running comedy drama on Channel 4 as well as becoming a platform for new talent in the same way as youth drama Skins.
