Channel 4 orders new student drama

Channel 4 is to shoot a new post-watershed drama next year, written by Peep Show creators Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain and being produced jointly by Lime Pictures and Objective Productions.

The eight part series Fresh Meat will follow six student roommates as they embark on their university education in Manchester.

According to C4’s head of drama Camilla Campbell the post-watershed series will take an uncompromising look at the students’ new-found independence as they are faced with dealing with life and relationships as young adults for the first time.

Bain and Armstrong will lead a team of writers for the eight 45-minute episodes.
The production will also take some cues from American sitcoms, with more than one read-through for each script and the writers workshopping ideas with actors.

Fresh Meat will go into production next year with Campbell hoping Fresh Meat will become a long running comedy drama on Channel 4 as well as becoming a platform for new talent in the same way as youth drama Skins.
