The 29th London Critics' Circle Film Awards, in aid of the NSPCC took place on 04 February 2009.
For the first time, an NSPCC award for Young British Performer of the Year was added and it went to Thomas Turgoose for his performances in Shane Meadows's Somers Town (see ScreenTerrier's previous blog here) and the critically-acclaimed horror film Eden Lake, consolidating the promise he showed in This Is England.

The other young nominees for the award were Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Georgia Groome (Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging), Bill Milner (Son of Rambow), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), and Will Poulter (Son of Rambow).
